Within a participant class, you may have additional segments that you want to treat uniquely. Typically, you define these segments by psychology, lifestyle, location, or culture. The rewards that motivate one segment may not motivate another even if the value of the reward is the same. We use three techniques to segment programs: campaigns, groups, and custom data fields.
You can segment programs in many ways. A customer loyalty program may include a campaign for Hispanic users, which also has custom data for male and female participants. A wellness program could use groups to segment by gender, and still have campaigns for different income levels. The table on the following page shows examples of the flexibility you have with program segmentation.
